If you’re looking to have a rhinoplasty in Chevy Chase then you probably have several questions about what a rhinoplasty surgery involves, recovery times, and whether you will be in pain following it.
Where to Have a Rhinoplasty in Chevy Chase
First of all pick an experienced surgeon for your rhinoplasty, because it is a difficult and skillful form of cosmetic surgery that needs to be carried out by an experienced rhinoplasty specialist. Some people choose a cheap procedure, or they go to a general plastic surgeon and find later that they’re not happy with the results, either the look of the nose isn’t right, or they suffer from congestion or nose bleeds. Further reconstruction can be done but if too much cartilage has already been removed this can be complicated.
Your Rhinoplasty Consultation
A rhinoplasty consultation will involve discussing with your surgeon your medical history, having scans on your nose to see its structure, and for you to describe to your surgeon what your ideal nose would look like. Some have the facility of cutting edge software which allows them to take a photo of your face and then superimpose your new nose onto it. You can then make small adjustments to the image until you’re happy with the results. The surgeon will then take these images into surgery to guide them to provide you with the nose you wanted.
They will be able to advise if you can remove the humped nasal bridge, enlarge or decrease the size of your nostrils, make your nose more symmetrical, reduce a bulbous nose tip, or make whatever changes you wish to reduce the size of your nose.
Having Rhinoplasty Surgery
On the day of your surgery you should expect a surgical procedure of around one and a half hours to three hours depending on the extent of the work your surgeon may carry out. They will probably have described to you earlier whether they will do an open or closed nasal surgery. A closed nasal surgery is carried out through an incision made into the inside of your nostril. This is a small incision which of course will not be visible after healing as it is hidden on the inside of your nose. Through this incision tissue and cartilage can be shaved away and removed to shape your nose.
If more extensive work is needed then this will likely need to be carried out by open surgical incision which will likely be between your nostrils at the base of your nose. This larger incision will allow the surgeon access to a larger area and to shave off more cartilage or remove tissue and reshape and align your nasal passages. Again the incision will be fine and should heal nicely, and be in an obscured part of the face which won’t likely be noticed by anyone once it has matured.
Recovery may take a couple of weeks following the surgery as your face heals, and you may experience bleeding and swelling.
