In the last five years or so, cryptocurrency has taken off in the tech and investing world. The biggest names being talked about include Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
Some people think it will not only change the way we do business but potentially change the way we think of our country’s currency and credit cards on a large scale.
For now, credit cards and paper currency are still kings. But, what if we are getting a sneak peek into the future of business and currency with bigger names than we would expect?
These are five companies that are currently accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
1. Travala
This travel booking company is gaining a crypto-friendly reputation in the cryptocurrency world. Travala accepts over 30 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Binance.
The move took place last year when Travala partnered with Expedia Partner Solutions (EPS) and gained access to over 700,000 properties across the world.
2. Twitch
This Amazon-owned live streaming platform allows not only creators to accept crypto donations but also gave out a 10% discount to subscribers if they paid via cryptocurrency last year.
Twitch accepts various cryptos from BTC to ETH, XRP, USDC, GUSD, PAX, and BUSD.
Twitch has been allowing users to tip with crypto from as far back as 2018, but they have since expanded from the original four currencies they started with.
3. BMW
Yes, you can even buy a car with cryptocurrency these days. Mainly in the United Kingdom and parts of Canada, BMW has begun accepting crypto payments for cars.
To no surprise, the most notable coin accepted is BTC. Other coins accepted include Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin.
BMW uses Alt 5 Pay to prevent price volatility risk and security risks towards them.
4. Burger King
Home of the Whopper and the company that promises to let you “have it your way”, Burger King has taken that slogan to a whole new level the last two years.
First in Germany, now in Venezuela, Burger King allows its customers to pay for their Whopper, fries, and more using cryptocurrencies.
Coins accepted include BTC, ETH, LTC, Dash, and Tether.
Imagine being able to have the option to buy something as simple as a hamburger with crypto. If you forget your cash at home and pass by a Burger King, you could check your phone to see if there is a bitcoin atm near you.
5. Wikipedia
Ok, admittedly this is more of a company that relies on donations. But regardless, the online encyclopedia company accepts crypto donations to help keep the site up and running.
The main coin Wikipedia accepts is Bitcoin. They use Coinbase to immediately convert Bitcoin into US dollars.
Want to Buy With Cryptocurrency?
With cryptocurrency, you can now book a trip, purchase a car, support a live streamer, keep a non-profit up and running, or even buy a hamburger.
That is just what is available in 2021. With the way things are going, we could be looking at being able to purchase a lot more with cryptocurrencies looking back on this in 2031.
